I was born on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania
In 1938 to a large hard working
farm family(9 sibs). Being second generation middle Europeans, Dad
Slebodnik worked in the mines
at night and farmed during the day. In an effort to save money, Dad taught my
brothers and I to build, grow and maintain all life essentials. That's where I
watched and later participated in not only farming but construction and
maintenance of the home and farm buildings. I can still see Dad and Grampa
poring concrete in the barn for the cow stanchions. We built many out
buildings and rebuilt the barn walls, remodeled the house many times. I think I
painted the barn three times and the house twice in those early years. I decided
along the way that farming was not too profitable. After some years of
Electrical, plumbing and carpentry jobs and a 5 year stretch in the coal mines (
more construction experience). I decided to strike out on my own. After about
six months of trying to work in cold wet weather, I decided to move West to
Arizona where I attained an Improvement Contractors license for 10 more years .
The HOT weather became too unbearably hot and dry. After a two year hiatus from
a torn cartilage in my right elbow, I moved to the North county area and became
licensed as a General Contractor with a Home Improvement certification. I went
on to school at Inspector Training Associates in Oceanside to broaden my
knowledge further as a home inspector. I have long since lost track of my early
training credentials including my Arizona contractors license. I think my ex
trashed it.
